Traditionally, the ends of clapboards were skived, or beveled, so that the ends of the clapboards could overlap. As the wood moves, the joints between claps remains tight. The oldest remaining clapboards have the longest, most gently tapered, bevels and the length of a skive can help date a building’s exterior. Our tapers are about 2 inches long
