Pinned Through Tenon

The end of the through-tenon peeks through the bottom of the sill. On the front, exterior, face of the sill, you can see the ends of the pins that secure the mortise in the tenon. Look for these identifying circles on the sills of 18th century houses, directly beneath where the jamb enters the sill. The pins may still be visible.
