Preservation Timber Framing

Traditional repair of timber-framed barns, homes, churches and steeples

Cumberland Barn

What we did

We completed major repairs throughout the Cumberland barn, starting by lifting the entire structure to replace the footers and structural point loads and re-level the structure. We then raised the girt line to create more head room under the lofts. Our work on the roof included extensive structural repairs, replacing the sheathing, and installing a new roof. On the interior, we reworked the lofts and stalls. We also patched and restored the pine flooring, cleaning and reusing old boards wherever possible and gracefully incorporating new wood where necessary. On the exterior, we installed new Eastern White Pine cedar shakes along with finish trim, doors, windows, and a fresh coat of paint.
