Arron Sturgis

Arron Sturgis

Arron lives, breathes, and dreams about preservation and timber framing. Born and raised in Keene, NH, he attended the University of New Hampshire and graduated in 1983 with a degree in Psychology. He began his career of historic preservation in 1987.

Arron founded Preservation Timber Framing in 1992 and has led the way ever since. He attributes his love of timber framing to his long-term membership and involvement with the Timber Framers Guild. Arron lives in a traditional timber-framed home with his beautiful and artistic wife Michele and two fun cats.

Emilee Bolduc

Emilee Bolduc

An indispensable part of the company since she joined over a decade ago, Emilee’s background in bookkeeping, project management, and all things office management keeps the proverbial PTF chisels sharpened.

Emilee and her husband live in Barrington, NH with their two dogs and three snakes. She enjoys hiking, craft beer, and swinging kettlebells. If you want a prompt reply, copy Emilee.

Dan Boyle

Dan Boyle

Following his graduation from the UNH forestry school, Dan was hired as the company’s first employee. He is active in the Traditional Timber Frame Research and Advisory Group, and has served on the board of the South Berwick Historic District Commission for 20 years.

Dan lives in South Berwick with his wife and three children and is president of Maine’s smallest ski area: Powderhouse Hill.

Volunteerism and awards
  • Member of the curriculum development committee at the Somersworth and Dover High Schools’ Career Technical Center. In this position, he advises the building trades teachers on current skills in the construction industry, and assists with job placement.  
  • Board member of Sobo Central, South Berwick, a non-profit organization that works to bring together citizens committed to a healthy, vibrant town. The organization provides an umbrella for groups putting on concerts, providing fuel and food assistance for those in need and working to keep South Berwick environmentally, socially and economically vibrant.
  • In 2020, selected by the town of South Berwick to receive the Spirit of America award, honoring volunteerism. For more than 30 years, the Spirit of America Foundation Tribute has been presented in the name of Maine Municipalities to local individuals, organizations and projects for commendable community service. This tribute of recognition is for his outstanding community service and dedication to the town and its programs. His volunteer efforts and recognition was strongly supported by the Town Council, the town manager, the employees of the town and his peers.

Tom Glynn

Tom Glynn

Tom studied Preservation Carpentry at the North Bennet Street School in Boston and launched his career in this field with Historic New England. Not one to toot his own horn, Tom is one of our most knowledgeable and skilled carpenters and a wit to boot.

Scott Lewis

Scott Lewis

Scott grew up in Cumberland, ME and attended UME-Orono. After a career bartending and managing restaurants like Fore Street and Street and Company, Scott attended the North Bennet Street School for Preservation Carpentry. Since 2022, he has served on the advisory board of the Abyssinian Meeting House in Portland, ME, the third oldest African American Meetinghouse. He lives on Chebeague Island with his wife, son, and dog.

Brian Cox

Brian Cox

Brian began working in preservation in Savannah, GA. He graduated from Columbia University in 2004 with a master’s degree in Preservation and pursued historic preservation in Manhattan before moving to NH with his family and joining Preservation Timber Framing.

David Ewing

David Ewing

Dave grew up south of Philadelphia, PA and attended Hamilton College where he spent time melding interests in sculpture and photography. After graduating from college, he entered the construction world working for a large company in Portland, Maine. Eventually, he continued his studies at Boston Architectural College for a master’s degree in Architecture, but hands-on work kept calling him back and he shifted focus. Dave transferred into a Master of Design Studies in Historic Preservation program, started an internship through Maine Preservation, and joined Preservation Timber Framing in 2012.

Since joining, Dave has had the joy of wearing many hats. Whether it’s crawling into tight spots to restore the undercarriage of a house or barn, creating assessment reports for upcoming projects, or managing a team of subcontractors, Dave is grateful to be part of the crew.

Dave lives in South Berwick, Maine with his wife Heather and daughter Asa. He loves going on long walks with his dog Ginger, skiing with his daughter, playing crokinole with his buddies, and sitting over a cup of coffee or tea with his wife on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Erik Lindquist

Erik Lindquist

While teaching high school geometry, Erik took a timber framing course at the Yestermorrow Design Build School. He was hooked. He joined the Timber Framers Guild, attending workshops and self learning until joining the crew. He loves putting his math background to work on the job. He lives in Durham, NH with his one wife and two children, nine chickens, and a cat.

Tom grew up in southern New Hampshire and studied preservation carpentry at the North Bennet Street School in Boston, receiving a generous ‘Work Ethic’ scholarship from the mikeroweWORKS Foundation.

Daron Smith

Daron Smith

A third generation carpenter, Daron grew up on a farm in Oregon where he learned many skills that he later refined by building all kinds of scenery for film and television. As a foreman and a set carpenter in Los Angeles, he built anything and everything from spaceships to the White House Oval Office. Peep his extensive IMDb.

Alex Dykstra

Alex Dykstra

Alex grew up in Kalamazoo, MI and studied construction management at Northern Michigan University. He started timber framing seasonally during college. Upon graduation, he moved to Bellingham, WA and cut new timber frames at Cascade Joinery for five years. In 2022, he moved to Maine to pursue traditional timber framing and joined the crew. He loves to surf with his wife in their free time.

Michael Mason

Michael Mason

Michael grew up in Tamworth, New Hampshire, and began his carpentry career as a teenager working with his father. He spent his early twenties traveling and working in outdoor education and wilderness therapy. After a short stint as a paddle maker, Michael returned to New England carpentry. In 2020, he completed a Timber Frame Intensive program with the Heartwood School. He joined PTF in 2022.

Adam Bramhall

Adam Bramhall

Adam hails from the UK where he gained a master’s in Renaissance Literature from the University of York. After crossing the pond, he worked in IT and telco for a decade as a technical editor and content design manager. Ready for a new challenge, he took the Timber Framing Intensive at the Heartwood School along with courses in drafting and cruck framing. He caught the outdoor woodworking bug and promptly joined the crew.

Peter Slattery

Peter Slattery

Born in Nashua and raised in Salem, MA, Peter spent his childhood in his grandfather’s studio, where he inherited a devotion to making art with his hands. His fascination with vernacular architecture was developed around the North Shore of Massachusetts. After moving to the White Mountains, Peter attended the Fox Maple timber framing school. He soon focused his career on timber frame restoration. Peter finds the most joy at work repairing towers and belfries, high above the sanctuary, alongside like-minded craftspeople. In winter he climbs waterfall ice across New England.

Evan Greeson

Evan Greeson

Evan grew up outside of Buffalo, NY and now lives in Biddeford, ME. After traveling extensively and volunteering at small farms, he founded Community Roots Farm. He is passionate about community gardens and growing food for others, especially those with food insecurity. His favorite vegetable is black radish.

Nic Istas

Nic Istas

Originally from Kansas, Nic graduated from Kansas State University with an interdisciplinary Humanities degree in Music and English. He began restoring buildings and cutting timber frames while living in New Orleans, where he spent over a decade rigging for film sets, concerts, and events. His love of woodworking and nature brought him (along with his partner, their dog, and two cats) to Maine and Preservation Timber Framing in 2024.

Christopher Horack

Christopher Horack

Christopher has earned two fancy pieces of paper, a bachelor’s in Hospitality Management and a master’s in Higher Education, but generally considers himself a student of life. In 2024, he left a career in student affairs to pursue the trades. Christopher finds joy in using his hands to support community. When the tool belt is off he can be found helping organize the queer trades collective out of South Portland. Christopher grew up in coastal New England, eventually landing in Maine where he is grateful to be living with his dog, Keeper.

James Kelleher

James Kelleher

While relatively new to carpentry, James has a strong background in architectural history and historic preservation. Earning his master’s degree in American Material Culture from the University of Delaware, his research has primarily focused on early colonial homes in New England. He has published academic articles on both vernacular and genteel architecture in New England and Philadelphia. Joining the company in 2025, he brings an eye for detail, passion for research, and broad knowledge of historic construction practices.

Brian Shanahan

Brian Shanahan

Brian grew up in Ohio and went on to study timber framing at the American College of the Building Arts in Charleston, South Carolina. In his spare time, he enjoys making models, drafting, hiking, and live music.
